Dear Students,
We would like to inform you that Chevron College will be using a new plagiarism-prevention and originality-checking system called StrikePlagiarism. This tool supports academic integrity and helps you develop strong academic writing and referencing skills.
What StrikePlagiarism does
StrikePlagiarism compares your submitted assignments with internet sources, academic databases, internal college submissions, and partner-institution databases. The system highlights text that matches existing sources. This does not automatically mean plagiarism; it is an indicator designed to support learning and good academic practice.
Accessing your similarity report in Moodle
After submitting an assignment in Moodle, you will see a colour-coded similarity percentage beside your uploaded file. By clicking on the percentage, you can open your full similarity report in a new window. If the report is not immediately visible, it may still be processing and will appear shortly.
Understanding your similarity report
Your report includes similarity coefficients (SC1, SC2), quoted content indicators, alerts related to formatting patterns, and a list of sources where matching text was found. Colour coding helps you identify the type of source, such as internet material, academic texts, internal databases, or quoted content. These indicators provide information only; interpretation is always carried out by your lecturer.
AI detection information
Where enabled, the report may also include an AI-generated text probability indicator. This shows the system’s level of confidence only and is never used in isolation. All results are reviewed by your lecturer with academic judgement and context.
Important to remember
A similarity report is not a plagiarism decision. Percentages alone do not determine academic misconduct. Your lecturer will always assess the quality of your work, the context of matches, and the accuracy of referencing.
